Good-Bye Hostess

Good bye to a Southern Treat ~
Saying good-bye to a favorite snack cakes in America.  Favorites included Twinkies, Ding Dongs, Sno balls, Orange Cupcakes,Wonder bread and other favorites that graced many a lunch bag at work ,school, and afternoon treats.  And yes some cooks took a Twinkie and dipped it in a batter and deep fried this sweet treat ~

Altho these favorite cream filled sweet cakes were not the healthiest for one's well being,it is the wonderful memories we have when our mother's alway had a bowl of these treats on the kitchen table.

Hostess Brands is one of the largest wholesale bakers and distributors of fresh delivered bread and snack cakes in the United States. The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy~ Thanks for the memories even tho I have not had your products since I was in grade school~

My thoughts and prays go out to the 18,500 employees who are now without jobs ~Blessings

Homemade Bread

Homemade Bread
I decided this morning to make homemade bread and the house smells so good. To top the bread off homemade butter and Quince jam from Italy~

1 cup buttermilk
1 package yeast
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup melted butter
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon sea salt
3 eggs
5 cups sifted flour

Heat milk then cool.

1.Place the yeast package into the warm water ,add melted butter, sugar, salt, and eggs, and stir till mixed .
2. Pour in the warm milk.
3.  Toss in the sifted flour mixture stir til well blended.  Continue to stir the flour mixture scraping the bowl til all the flour is incorporated to make the dough.
4. Grease a large bowl with olive oil and add the dough. Make sure you grease the top and side of the dough after placing into the bowl.
5.Cover bowl with a tea towel, let rise til dough doubles in size in a warm place.
While waiting knit ,read a book or sew,or watch a movie... ok now go
6. Turn the dough out on a floured board and knead. Keep kneading............................ Shape into two loafs or one large loaf place into greased pans. Remember to brush olive oil on top of dough. Cover and let rest to double again~
Back to sewing, knitting or enjoy a good book..... ok now
7.   Get that bread cooking at 375 til brown .......Remove from oven and cool ,or eat hot with butter and homemade jams

  Enjoy !!!!!!!

Chicken Pot Pie Gravy Over Biscuits

Make a simple white gravy with butter, flour, milk,Italian herbs and chicken stock~ if the sauce thickens to much add more milk and stir often.
Chop your vegetables and boil in water drain, then add to gravy. You can add whatever favorite vegetables you like to this dish~
Boiled 4 chicken breast ,or buy a roasted chicken and tear meat into pieces, add to gravy~
Bake Biscuits ~ I prefer to make them a bit brown on top as you want some texture and crunch to this recipe.
Take two Biscuits per serving , split biscuits open on plate. Spoon on the Chicken Pot Pie Gravy over the Biscuits. Add fresh ground pepper & paprika ~Enjoy ~~~Hot sauce is a nice topping~

Note: Different ways to cook the vegetables are ~ Roasting,or Grilled Vegetables, the above recipe is my fast get it done supper because everyone is hungry now~
